This gives us the chance to experience the astonishing contrasts that make Athens such a captivating city. We enjoy a short stop at the Panathenaic Stadium, home to the first modern-day Olympic Games, held in 1896. Then we pass by the Prime Minister’s residence guarded by the Evzones in their unusual uniforms. We see the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch. Also on the itinerary are the Academy, the University, the National Library, Syntagma Square, and the Greek House of Parliament, a neoclassical structure overlooking the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

At the top we pass through the Propylaea, the stately entrance to the magnificent structures inside, and we will enjoy a spectacular view of the city as well as the entire basin of Attica. From here we continue to the Temple of Athena Nike, and the Erechtheion, an ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis. We then visit the magnificent Parthenon, arguably the best known and most awesome structure on the Acropolis. This huge Doric temple was dedicated to the divine patroness of Athens, Athena. We make our way to the new Acropolis Museum, less than 1,000 feet southeast of the Parthenon. Here we enjoy a unique and memorable journey through history.
