Day 3
The Classical Tour of the Holy Land begins with a drive up the coast to Caesarea, which was built by Herod the Great. See the excavations of the Roman port, aqueduct and the amphitheatre that has been restored to its former glory as a concert venue. From here we continue on to Megiddo, the Biblical site of Armageddon, and see the archaeological excavations including the well-preserved water supply system. We proceed to Daliat-el-Carmel, a Druze village, and enjoy a late lunch at a local restaurant. Then we drive via Mount Carmel to Haifa for a panoramic view of Haifa Bay and the golden domed Baha’i shrine and gardens. Overnight in a Kibbutz guesthouse.

Day 4
Today we begin with a drive to Safed, the centre of Jewish mysticism. Here we see the ancient synagogues and the artists’ colony. We make our way to the Golan Heights to see the former Syrian bunkers, Kuneitra – severely damaged in both the 1967 and 1973 conflicts – and the new Israeli town of Katzrin, known as “the capital of the Golan”. We stop at the Golan Winery for a tour and wine tasting. Then we proceed to “Golan Magic”,  for a multimedia presentation of the area and its history. Overnight in a Kibbutz guesthouse.

Day 5
We start the day with a visit to Nazareth where we visit the Church of Annunciation. After this we continue to Tiberias, and then visit Capernaum to see the ruins of the synagogue and Church of St Peter. From there we visit the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount.  Afterwards, we drive via Bet Shean to Bet Alpha to see the remains of the mosaic floor of an ancient synagogue depicting the zodiac. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 6
We begin our tour of Jerusalem with a magnificent panoramic view from the Mount of Olives. We drive to the Old City, visit the Tomb of King David and the Room of Last Supper on Mount Zion. Then we enter the walled city and walk through the newly restored Jewish Quarter. We visit the Roman Cardo, the Herodian Quarter and continue to the Western Wall. Next, we walk along the Via Dolorosa to the Church of Holy Sepulchre. Later we visit Bethlehem* where we view Rachel’s tomb and visit the Church of the Nativity and Manger Square. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 7
Still in Jerusalem, we drive to the Israel Museum. We visit the Shrine of the Book, where the Dead Sea scrolls are housed, and see the intricate model of Jerusalem as it was during the Second Temple period. We drive past the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, as we make our way to Mount Hertzel cemetery and Yad Vashem, the memorial to the Holocaust. Afterwards, we drive through Mea Shearim, Jerusalem’s ultra orthodox neighbourhood and learn about their unique lifestyle. In the evening we enjoy a Middle Eastern dinner followed by the aptly named “Night Spectacular” sound and light show** at the Tower of David Museum. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 8
We drive through the Judean desert to the Dead Sea. At 400 metres below sea level, the Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth. We stop at Qumran to view the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. From there we continue along the shores of the Dead Sea to Masada, the ancient hilltop fortress where the Zealots made their last stand against the Romans before committing mass suicide in 73 AD. We ascend and descend by cable car. Continuing on to the Dead Sea**, we have the opportunity to cover ourselves with its mineral-rich mud and float on the water. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 9
The Classical Tour of the Holy Land Tour ends with free time to explore at our leisure. Overnight in Jerusalem.
